Tofino is located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. We live on a penninsula surrounded by pristine sandy beaches, deep silent coves, temperate rainforests and limitless views of snow capped mountains. It is an awe-inspiring, rugged, profoundly beautiful place.

"There is no such thing as the perfect asana, the perfect body, the perfect moment. And, all asana is perfect, all bodies are perfect, all moments are perfect. Perfectly flawed. Perfectly messy. Perfectly human."

Late winter. Here come the snow drops. Not the flakes that fall from the sky but the flower that risks a winter bloom. The white delicate flower is peaking out of its hardy stem and bulb. This flower decided to throw inhibition aside and take the risk. I'm guessing it has learned enough times that blooming is not risky when its sustenance is steeped in a hardy bulb tucked into a much larger system of soil. So there it is--the practice of yoga as a means to build core physical and mental strength (the bulb) with the risk of revealing our inner beauty and love (the white delicate flower). If a heavy storm blows between now and summer (which I'm sure it will) and the flower falls to the ground or freezes on its stem, the source of that beauty and love has not faltered. It waits until the time is right to risk extending again out into the ever changing weather patterns of the following year. So that is the practice of late winter--risk for the sake of beauty and love from the core source of that support and nourishment and weather the storms in between.

Always in gratitude, Sarah Platenius
